Star Wars BB8
About
The Star Wars BB8 Droid has been embraced as the new fan favorite character of the franchise. With the excitement of the highly anticipated 7th installment Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, I wanted to create a fun avant garde themed makeup. So naturally, I drew inspiration from this unique new character and thought it fitting for an eye makeup.
To begin, I glued my eyebrow down flat with Telesis 5 Adhesive from PPI Premiere Products Inc. Then, I airbrushed Coral Blue Skin Illustrator under the lower lash area. Next, I smudged Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Raven above the blue and up into the lash line — also applying the eyeliner onto my waterline. The initial BB8 outline was roughed out using water-based makeup for easy adjustments. Black Illustrator was put around the outline to create the outer space background, which was completed with airbrushing the color to soften the edges. White was then flicked over to create starry effect. A few larger stars were applied by hand afterward. The orange markings are a mixture of Illustrator Burnt Orange, Prime Yellow and White. The gray is a blend of White and Black of the same product. Mehron Metallic Powder in Silver with Mixing Liquid was used as the winged eyeliner. Smashbox eyeshadow in Suede Black was placed under BB8’s head for a shadow creating a 3D look. Cover Fx Natural Finish Foundation was put on any exposed skin around the design. Lastly, the entire look was sprayed with PPI Blue Marble SELR Sealer. False lashes were also applied to tie everything in.
I did not film the application of the makeup, but a video was created to show the entire makeup in motion. I would be remiss if I didn’t include the iconic Star Wars edit to the clip. Also included are a few pics showing the steps of makeup which took 2.5 hours to complete.
